Things to Do in Heber City
Experience Something Unique to the Area
Just five miles west of the town is the infamous Homestead Crater. It is an hour-glass-shaped geothermal hot spring with a depth of 65 feet and an average temperature of 95 degrees. If you’re a diver, you have to check it out. The crater is the only warm scuba destination in the continental United States. If you aren’t scuba certified, don’t worry. Guests can also swim, soak, snorkel on the surface, or tour the hot spring.
Also west of the town is Ice Castles. The attraction is pretty much what it sounds like and so much more. According to their website, “the experience is built using hundreds of thousands of icicles hand-placed by professional ice artists. The castles include breathtaking LED-lit sculptures, frozen thrones, ice-carved tunnels, slides, fountains, and much more.” The attraction is only open in the winter and is dependent on the weather.

Explore the Region
There are so many ways to explore this stunning area of Utah. Heber City is the perfect location to experience as much of the landscape as possible. One great way to see a lot in a short amount of time is to take a ride on the Heber Valley Railroad. There are several scenic train rides to choose from, and all are guaranteed to entertain the kids. We also recommend going horseback riding with Rocky Mountain Outfitters! They offer two different tours with breathtaking views. You can also go hiking or mountain biking at a nearby forest or park. Both Wasatch Mountain State Park and Uinta National Forest are close and great areas to explore.

Learn Some History
The Commemorative Air Force Museum or Utah Wing Museum houses some incredible, historic planes. The displays focus on WWII and celebrate the history of military aviation as a whole. The museum closes in the winter and typically reopens at the start of May.
Go Fly Fishing
Odds are, you’ll catch something in Heber City! Between the pristine Provo River and the Deer Creek Reservoir, there is no shortage of places to go fishing. Fly fishing is especially popular because there are an estimated 3,500 to 4,000 fish in every mile of stream! You can expect to catch winners like Brown Trout, Mountain Whitefish, and Rainbow Trout.
